Paradise Found: Recreational Boating on the Neversink Reservoir
|
Upstate, NY – With its crystalline waters, cascading damn and bountiful views of the neighboring wilds, the Neversink Reservoir is paradise for recreational boating enthusiasts.
Whatever your preference (kayaks, canoes, row boats, skulls or small sailboats with removable center boards), the Neversink Reservoir is the perfect place to spend time on the water while visiting the picturesque Catskill and Shawangunk regions. With public access provided via new boat launch sites, Memorial Day Weekend through Columbus Day Weekend, area resorts like Honor's Haven Resort & Spa in Ellenville, NY who have a reputation for providing guests with ample opportunities for outdoor adventure, are looking forward to introducing their guests to the Neversink's ninety-two square miles of pristine waterways. "We are very excited to be able to offer our guests such a unique opportunity" said Julian Lee, General Manager of Honor's Haven Resort & Spa. "To be able to explore the splendor of Upstate New York's exquisite countryside from the vantage point of a personal craft is amazing! It's a definite bucket-list experience." While the Neversink Reservoir's location is considered to be more remote than other Catskill reservoirs, "its seclusion lends a certain charm that can't be found elsewhere" explained Shin Hwang, the resort's Business Development Manager. Previously restricted to all watercraft except for rowboats, the development of additional recreational opportunities in the area will certainly enhance the quality of life for visitors and residents alike. For more information about the Neversink Reservoir and its recreational opportunities visit www.nyc.gov/dep.

GO HEALTHY
"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away." - Hillary Cooper

Most people tend to their hold breath or breathe in a slightly abnormal way. They tend to breathe using the muscles of their upper chest, neck and shoulders. It creates tension in your upper shoulder, neck and head. Also this is not the most effective way to get the needed oxygen to our brain and muscles. If you watch babies or animals breathe, you will notice that they breathe with their whole bodies, their bellies rise and fall with each breath. For some reason, we stop doing this when we outgrow diapers. The energy breathing meditation really works well for stress reduction, weight management, emotion management! A person's normal breathing rate is 8-12 breaths per minute. But Under stress or a panic attack, they tend to breathe faster (up to 20-30 breaths per minute) and more shallowly. Since it is shallow, the breathing doesn't create big circulation in the body. The cells don't feel energized and you may feel exhausted easily.
Try energy breathing meditation step by step. When you feel heavy in your chest, try chest breathing first to release the tension. Chest breathing is designed to release blocked energy from your chest and relax your body and mind. You can try this breathing whenever you feel tense in your chest, then you can try abdominal breathing. How to do:
1. Breathe in deeply through your nose and expand your chest/lungs. 2. Breathe out through your mouth. Release tension in your body as you breathe out. 3. Imagine that stagnant energy is released from your body through your fingertips as you breathe out. When you feel better in your chest, try the upper abdominal breathing. You'll find that abdominal breathing will help you relax any time you are feeling anxious.
How to do:
1. Place one hand on your abdomen right beneath your rib cage 2. Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose into the bottom of your lungs. Your chest should move only slightly, while your stomach rises, pushing your hand up. 3. Inhale 3 times, pause for a moment and then exhale fully 3 times through your mouth. As you exhale, just let yourself go and imagine your entire body going loose. It should take you longer to exhale as it did to inhale. 4. In order to fully relax, take and release ten abdominal breaths. Try to keep your breathing smooth and regular throughout, without gulping in a big breath or exhaling suddenly. If you really feel relaxed in your upper abdomen, you can go to your lower abdomen where babies do breathe. It is very rejuvenating and energizing! Good luck with your breathing!
