At the end of February Honor's Haven was inundated with some three feet of wet heavy snow. The result of that was that many trees suffered a loss of limbs due to the great weight of the snow.

Evidence of this is still visible almost everywhere on Honor's Haven grounds. One tree that suffered virtually no damage was the Birch Tree as can be seen in the photo on the left. The photo on the right shows why. Birch trees are far more flexible than most trees. Consequently when the snow piled on, the birch tree bent until it touched the ground. After the snow melted it sprung back up as seen in the picture on the left.

One of the benefits of all the snow, and the subsequent rains that we have received here is that we have a water falls. I call it the Spring Falls, because by summer it will have dried up.
To get to the Spring Falls, take the Yellow Trail to the Orange Trail. At the point where the Orange Trail runs parallel to the Babbling Brook, you should be able to see the falls on the far side of the brook.
One last note. Check out the bird feeder on the patio just outside the Vista Room. White Breasted Nuthatches (picture on left) are one of the more interesting birds that visit it. They often walk head down on the trunk of the tree.
While there you may also see a Cardinal.Go out and enjoy the beauty as we transition from winter to spring.
